Lexington Lions Club
Used Eyeglasses Collection and Recycling Program
Throughout the year, we collected tens of thousands of unwanted eyeglasses and sunglasses for those in need in developing countries.
What happens to the donated eyeglasses ?
1) The donated glasses are first sorted to remove any damaged or unusable eyeglasses. Any eyeglass cases we get are not kept, because they add bulk and weight to shipments.
2) All eyeglasses are then cleaned and stored until taken to have the lens prescription read.
3) Once the prescription is determined, each pair of eyeglasses is individually placed in an envelope with the prescription identified, then bulk packed for future shipment and distribution by Lions Clubs and other Groups.
