Where does the money from the Lexington Lions Club Patriots Day Road Race go?

100% of the proceeds of the Patriots Day Road Race goes toward Eye Disease Research through the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund. The Lions are known for their service to persons who are blind and visually impaired, and we have been dedicated to this cause since 1925, when Helen Keller challenged Lions to become "knights of the blind in this crusade against darkness." Lions accepted Keller's challenge.

The continued success of Patriots Day Road Race has allowed the Lexington Lions to continue it's mission of helping people with eye diseases and providing critical financial support for various eye research programs.

The Lexington Lions Club donations to the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund over the years from our Patriots Day Road Race has resulted in nearly $500,000 of funding.

Glaucoma Example

  • More than 40 million people in the world are blind today.
  • This very minute three people will begin to go blind.
  • Before the end of today, 4,300 more people will be blind.
  • 80% of the world's blind are needlessly blind
